Game Peeves

Yes folks, this thread could get mighty nasty, so let's be careful.

My first and greatest peeve that I've been dealing with since I brought back my empath into play is this annoying habit of people not typing in more than two letters of a person's name.

This is a TEXT game, people. It requires TYPING! Why on Earth can you not type a whole friggin word?! Because typing "kill rolton" is such a hardship so you must type "kill ro" and poor Roger gets smacked in the head.

If I think of more I'll post them. I'm sure someone else will do something that will make my toes curl. reg

My game peeves? People who walk by you when you're dead, or kill the thing in the room then walk by.

Also, anyone who owns a katana.

Oh yeah, people who use the word "cool" in any way, shape, or form in-game.

Did I mention the non-roleplaying powerhunting dark elf sorc or pure growth warrior with 3 75+ level supports?

Don't forget those people who complain about two-handers being too powerful when compared to OHE or blunts.

Also, whenever some sort of roleplaying event is going on, like an invasion, and the ground quakes and crimson lightning is shooting down from the sky, the three-five people who always say, "did anyone else just see<insert copied and pasted message here>".

I'll think of more later. reg

People who complain about their pet peeves in Gemstone!! Haha (just kidding)

Seriously..there are many things that bug me..but off the top of my head..people who do actions in thoughts on the amulet (i.e, You hear the faint thoughts of Whomever echo in your mind: Hello So and So!! ::hugs:: )

I always thought of the amulet as a means of "HEARING" other people's thoughts, and having other people "HEAR" yours. You can hear someone say something, you can hear someone laugh, but you can not hear someone HUG someone else--what's up with that?

[This message has been edited by Weedmage Princess (edited 02-02-2002).] reg

1) People that think the use of acronyms is automatically out of character.
i.e. TTM is chat room speak.

2) Anyone that puts "ies" on the end of a word to make it sound like a 2 year old is speaking. (brillies, massies, etc.)

3) People that speak/think with such bad accents, that its impossible for most normal people to fully translate what they are trying to say.

Sample:
Heindel exclaims, "Aa sae we tak oot tha baxter! Pat em in his aucht bluidy uin!"

4) People that use the "screw your buddy over to make yourself better by comparison" mentality.

They have a problem with their race/profession, etc. - so their solution is to make everyone else get the same penalty/problem that they have, rather than offering a solution to fix their own damn problem in the first place.

5) The people that when some other group gets a new perk/spell, they want almost exactly the exact same perk/spell for their own profession.

6) People that have played 10+ characters since they started Gemstone - that want to penalize those that dedicate their time in game to ONE persona exclusively.

Them having played, and retired 13 level 25 people is perfectly fine - but someone that is older, and has dedicated themselves to one persona, is a powerhunter/non-roleplayer.
[Incidentally - if you run the #s, 13 level 25 people, is 9.75 mill experience, which is equivalent to a level 205 person.]

7) The Age Cap.

8) The people that are always out of character powerhunters until such time as a merchant or event shows up - then all of a sudden, they are master roleplayers, just so they can get a crack at receiving a roleplaying award.

9) The people that constantly recite the rules of a particular merchant, and for everyone to join their group since they are "assisting" the merchant.

10) The bullies in gemstone that bought their character on E-bay - and use that character to pick on others.

11) The twits in gemstone, that go and pick a fight with older characters - and then get mad that the older character retaliated and is now "picking on them for no reason".

12) The people that roleplay until such time as there is a potential downside for their character, then its REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.

13) The people that roll up accounts through The Zone, just to set up older people, and pick fights with them - to try and get them banned.

If they get in trouble with that account - no problem, close that zone account out, and open another, and then try again.

14) The GMs that say "Well, you should be the bigger man and walk away from the situation" after the twit picks a fight with you in the first place.

Yeah, thats in character. You got 100+ levels on this newb rolled up through The Zone - they come in, slap you, punch you, kick you - and sling insults at you and you are the one that is suppose to run away anytime they start something with you.

How fun - you get to spend your entire time in game running away from younger people.

15) The people that "CHASE - its MINE!!!!!!!" a critter.

Get real - there is a non-exhaustible supply of critters. If you had hurt the critter, you'll learn from it - go find a new one.

16) People that do actions on amunet - ::hugs::, ::smiles::, etc.

17) The people that roll up a fully optimized character that is now a whopping level 3 - and he's going to be the best character in the game at level XXX.

They spend all their time comparing their stats/abilities XXX levels above where they are currently, to those that are already Level XXX - and brag about how much better they are going to be.

And of course, they never even remotely get to the age where they are worth a damn.

18) The duelers on the boulder that are level 16, and "no one can beat them cause they own everyone".

19) The people that no matter what happens, its a GM conspiracy/corruption/mistake.

20) The people that no matter what happens, its NOT a GM conspiracy/corruption/mistake.

I completely agree with everything Magister just posted, and since he posted everything that i have peeves against, and he prolly worded it better than i could, i'll leave it at that. Good job man.

-John reg

Wow Magister! Very nice! Very nice indeed! Damn, that pretty much summed it up for me. reg
Hmm.

I agree with Magister...although I didn't even really have to read the post to see that.

My main pet peave is one that I've alluded to several times in the past:

I _hate_ people that come to the game and try and change things off the bat.

I _hate_ people that always advocate change. Yes, change can be good...but it can also hurt. reg

I hate people who complain too much. reg
I hate people that post 8 messages in a row on the Official Boards. Nothing I dislike more.

Aggravating someone on purpose is my peeve.
For example what Makkah was talking about.

Andiago reg

I think my Peeve is when someone does something just to bother another person.
Something juvenile too.. Like what Makkah was talking about.

Andiago reg

An Andiago says that deliberately annoying someone by doing something they don't like is a peeve of Andiago's and should not be tolerated. Just like the posting thing Makkah was talking about.

Andiago reg

What was I saying?

Andiago reg

Ok Im done

Andiago reg

Thanks. That was thoroughly annoying.

the one big peeve i have is, that Gm ARENT on the same page, one Gm will say this, the other will say that, it's like the boulder, i talked to this one GM, forgot the name, and he told being ont he bouldedr, since it's a known place for CvC thats giving consent just by being there, so i went up there and killed this guy i hated, i got pulled up 30 secs later for unconsented PvP and got warned, even tho i told the Gm that i was just told by another being there is CvC, get on the same page on all the rules sometimes i dont even knw whatto do!

Detriot what? reg

Magister = God
My pet peeves

1. When you decide to help someone for no reason and be kind to them, and you hear of them trashing you when you aren't around..lame.

2. Old rogues who think they are ninjas because they can sweep/cheapshot you and put you in off so they can kill you or whatever. It's likely the lamest thing ever. To these rogues, I've got a present for you. 720

3. People who make a big deal about raising. Who cares for christ-sake, so many people die all the time. And if you have to raise to learn, you suck, or you're god and you've hunted until you can't learn anymore. I used to blindly fog to people in Wehn and fog em back, just to piss off Primum and all the other fogging clerics in Wehn. Lol, what days.

4. I hate you're running through a hunting ground, and someone you don't know is doing it to.. You pass a creature, and you come back and they're in the room. I used to just be a bitch and leave, but now I definately kill it anyway.

5. Newbies who trash mouth you and get mad and report when you silence them for a 500+ endroll.

6. using herbs

7. lag

8. getting locates but no rescues

9. getting in trouble by GMs. They need to stay out of petty PvP conflicts and such.

10. when GMs see you owning with a spell and change it, or change the area so it's obvious that was why.

11. having to convert notes in diff towns

12. when 2 gold rings get navved in a row.

13. mystery backpacks

14. kewl 3L33T dark elf sorcies with 100 faendryl items and their training looks like this at, lets say, 75.
armor (4 ranks)
shield: (43 ranks)
edged: (34 ranks)
blunt: (1 rank)
mana share: (24 ranks)
spell aim (21 ranks)
picking pockets (10 ranks)
brawling (5 ranks)
Triple trains: 40
lol you all know what i mean.

15. training like this (at 100 lets say)
shield (101 ranks)
edged (100 ranks)
combat maneuvers (101 ranks)
dan you know what i mean lol

16. when people are having cybersex and accidentally post it on the amulet (fisdan being a famous case but I've seen so many others)

17. gemstone cybersex

18. cybersex

19. when you were a newb and people got wrecked for asking dumb questions or generally breathing the wrong way by elders, and now it's like you're pulled if you breath the wrong way on them

20. that music when you enter GS and for some reason it plays on the wizard even though you've turned it off before

21. dragging giantmen

im going to bed this is all i can think of
-Zent

reg

When people think RPing is saying "weather" instead of lag, and "god" instead of GM.

Also when speaking, they insert 'ae' into every word, like nae, tae etc. etc. "That's nae tae good."

When the thought police come on the net(s) and tell you what you can and cannot think.

And on the flip side of that, the people who constantly whine and complain on the Voln net *cough*Haashek*cough*.

Clerics who raise people without asking.

When someone responds to a message on the official boards, and changes the subject field so it shows up like this:

A thought
Re: A thought
Re: A thought
Re: A thought (MY perspective)
Re: A thought (MY perspective)
Re: A thought (MY perspective)

The fact that perception plays barely any role at all in detecting pickpockets.

That's all I can think of right now.. reg

1. People that take things to seriously from the game and don't know when to let it go.

2. Becoming the bad guy for having a different opinion.

3. Someone jumping into your argument for no reason, making no contribution, and being for lack of a better word a tool.

4. People that use the boards to state others downfalls in the game. Situations are needed not names. Nothing I hate worse than someone have a preconsieved notion about me because of what someone else said, and I know you all feel the same.

5. People selling common items for 6x their value like armbands from the giantman village then getting pissed at you for saying hey buyer get one for 5k at the village. People have a right to be informed.

6. Taking advantage of the new players ( see #5)

7.I saved the biggest for last:
People who expect things from you because of your profession, your a wizard you need to cast on me, your an empath you must heal me, your a cleric it is your duty to raise me. Listen people choose their professions for their own reasons and train for their own goals, if they want to help you great but non are required to do so and should never be treated as such. I love to spell people up but come at me with the attitude "You need to spell me up because your a wizard, if you didn't want to spell me up you shouldn't have been a wizard" crap and I will turn on you like a bi-polar lunch lady.

Anticor Rifling, Giantman Wizard reg

Oh i agree with you! half of the clerics hate me cause i dont liek to raise, i worship gosaena in game, god of death, and people have tried to kill me, do all sorts of crap cause i hate raising, i mean i'll LK and help them out but i wont raise its just me, i mean i raise good friends cuase there myy friends i go out of myy way for them, but i choose what i do with my character dont get pissed on how i do things

This ones easy.

1) Blatent multi-accounters. Play one at a time if you're not a good enough role player to hide it.

2) Little snerts who cause trouble, get whooped, and then go get "big brother" to avenge his death. TIP: go get him and all his friends - you'll all die.

3) People who post their hunting logs on these and other boards - yes, you're the greatest player ever and we all marvel at your talents. Come to me, I'll blow you into a million little pieces, and I'll post that - that would be far more interesting.

My biggest pet peeve?

People who can't type out the word sorcerer or sorceress.

What the bloody hell is a sorc supposed to be anyway? I mean it doesn't even sound or look like an abbreviation of the original word.

Des, witch reg

Zent if you think 2 navs in a row is bad... Last night I got naved four times in a row. So Yes FOUR times in under 10 seconds.

I post my hunt logs in the Rift folder because me, and others, find them interesting. Others may not.. I do not feel I am the best player in the game even though it could be argued due to the stats/skills of one of my characters, but I am not old and I do not wish to be thought of as the best, Just Zentalin and Jaeden ripping up every hunting ground they find.. I am free to post what I wish, if you want to blow me into a million pieces, come to the rift and do it. I'm in the mood for some amusement.

Zentalin,

I never mentioned your name specifically in my post - i'm sorry if you took it so personally. However, seeing as how I am more then 20 trainings older than your characters, I'd be glad to take you up on your offer. Be careful what you ask for you just might get it.

20 trainings isn't anything. I've recently imploded people in 1 hit who were 20 trainings over me..
Zentalin, at 42, killed Omnirus who was 134?
You can kill me but I have just the same ability to smite you.
I didn't take anything personally.. I was stating my opinion on your post. You seem to threaten the general population of posters on here, which isn't a very productive means of interacting.. personally I try to grant everyone a certain level of respect although sometimes I may not show this trait. You killed me when I was under 100...still a nice kill...when I was sitting down unspelled...always easier...but it don't matter.

I do remember walking into a room and blinding you and sorc-o-tool, then blinding and webbing you...but of course it came out of your mouth that I doctored up a log.

Oh well. reg

big deal it's obvious you could ward us if you were so much older. The statement was that I killed you.

One of my pet peeves goes like this:

A regular Joe-type player, who doesn't post on the boards and isn't famous for anything, runs into an NPC. Joe isn't the most experienced of roleplayers, but he's trying. But before Joe can even get an interaction started, BAM, locate messages appear, and one or more power roleplayers fog in and take over.

How come GMs don't unpresence their NPCs? I really, really dislike seeing this kind of thing. reg

Did Joe-type player mention to someone what was happening and who he was talking to? Or perhaps someone else saw what was going on and said something on the net and they started locating the informer and/or Joe-type?

I don't believe you can locate NPCs so it was the big mouth who caused the influx of the overachievers to interfere. Sometimes the Joe-type will get so excited about running into an NPC that they make it known to someone else and then it no longer becomes his to have fun with alone.

If you run into an NPC, don't tell anyone anything if there's no one else around. Some people say that those instances are rare and should be shared and not hogged. Yeah well.. I completely disagree with that. Enjoy your time in the limelight and let them find their own interactions on their own merits without having to rob someone else's of theirs.

------------------
Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things. reg

Crystal Tears, agreeded. Same thing with alterers and merchants when they show up, too. Ideally, it should be that something of that sort could be shared, everyone at one time or another gets a chance (not all from the same NPC or whatever but through various ones at different times) but..it's not like that. You have people who steal the show, and in some cases (opening up the can of worms here) certain merchants who will overlook some people for "reasons" or just overlook people in favor of other people. So, yes, if you (or anyone like you) are in that situation again, this time do what you have to do..and after you establish some kind of rapport with them, get that weapon or get that alter..or whatever you wanted...THEN share the news

Depends on the NPC. If it's a merchant, yes they can be located because they are regular characters. I was referring more to "a lost little girl" or "a baby rolton" who came in lost from the woods.

Blah.. I should have said "not all GM-run characters are locatable". reg

Depends on how the GM has flagged the character. Most merchants will not allow themselves to be located either to give spellcasters an advantage. It's the GM's choice, as far as I know.
