Hunting 25 levels about your train

This post is in relation to being begged by two warriors in the last hour to tank them to hunt Illoke shaman. Both these warriors are 50 trains.

My sorceress is 73 trains and hunts Illoke shaman.

I'm either venting or complaining that warriors shouldn't be able to hunt a creature that is 24 trains about their level. If I tried to do that, I wouldn't stand a chance at warding them. I'd waste all my mana at a lame attempt at hitting them. Not to mention, I'd more than likely get killed in the process by some crazy combat manuever.

I can hardly hunt something 7 levels above me. I might kill one, maybe two creatures before the mana supply is gone.

What's the deal here? I just don't think its fair.

So what you ask? Well, I'll tell ya. I'm pretty sure fame is level based. And what about variation? When I hunt something I do it for at LEAST 5 trains. Not to mention the annoyance of bringing these dead idiot warriors (or any other profession) back to town.

Ok, done venting now.

No, you're not wrong in feeling the need to vent. I have no problem with people who can hunt over their level on their own abilities, and perhaps a few defensive spells. But once you have to constantly ask for walls being cast at you, then yes it's a problem and you need to hunt something else.

It's for those reasons that spells are going to become self-cast, why they put a cap on how much you can learn from much older creatures (so why they felt the need to hunt that high is beyond me.. they won't benefit from it anymore than hunting 10 levels over them), and why critters get increasingly hard to deal with.

However, don't get upset about rescuing them. Just don't do it. If you give them the walls, just add the clause, "Now if you die don't say I didn't warn you." and don't rescue them. Maybe then they'll realize hunting there isn't such a good idea if they're not going to get their fellow hunters' support. reg

You didn't mention if you actually spelled them up or not. If you did, you have *no* - *zero* - *zilch* - *nada* right to complain.

If you didn't, good for you, and let someone else pick up their sorry corpses when they fall.

People who "beg" for spells to hunt so high over their own skills are doing nothing to support the mechanics as they currently exist, and force the staff to tweak and retweak critters and skills to the point where such spellups become necessary for viability.

People who do this - are the root cause of the problem. People who encourage this by giving in to their begging are the secondary cause.

I have no sympathy for either.

Roberta's right.

But get used to it.

Why do you think a lot of things have been changed?

There's several reasons...but one that's always stuck out in my mind was a post by someone about empaths and clerics getting extremely old...then creating a wizard...and just bind-hunting them/powerhunting them all the way up in levels.

Things were changed to prevent this...as the instance you speak of reg

No, I didn't spell them up. They are my friends and they had a hard time understanding why I wouldn't. I tried my best to explain to them that I just didn't think it was right.

Im confused as to the complaint.

Is it that they can overhunt by 25 levels with every spell in the game on them?

Do they hunt there self cast normally?

besides, overhunting past 5 levels offers no bonus anyway. reg

Fame. And it gets you all the ladies. reg

Do people still make a fuss about fame? I don't see the big deal. reg
Fame. And it gets you all the ladies.

If you seriously hunt to get alot of fame so you can get ladies on the other side of a keyboard in a text based game that 90% of the time are either guys or enourmous women, you might need to re-think your life plans. Hopfully for your sake you were joking.

I personally hunt way over my level because it is more fun and challenging. reg

I hear ya icedraggon..grin

Here's my two silvers on warriors begging for spells to tank....

Can they share mana?.... Yes?... Here you go, boys, pick what spells you want.

Can they not share mana?... Sorry, you aren't magicly inclined, you do not need what you cannot understand.

-He who has a warrior with 95 aura and 84 in mana share, just for this purpose...

You shouldn't be mean to em if they supply the spell juice. reg

Andiago supplies the Juice.
Andiago gets his opals.
Andiago the 40th train warrior kills his Sheruvian Harbingers.

heh I remember when I was a lvl 39 empath hunting pyros (pyros are lvl 72 for all that don't know) with pretty much every spell in the lands on me including like the grouped cleric spells (of course I had to have a zombie cleric follow me around to keep them up) and haste 2 (before you had to have at least 1 RT) and Pheons which I stole from a ranger etc. At this point with no CM I could do pretty well lol. Now that was some fun hunting heh that and the wasps bug is of course why my fame got so high heh.

Manodith reg

Reminds me of a while back when someone IMed me asking for spells (which that alone drives me nuts, and I had to tell everyone "Don't IM me for spells" since I would get like 400 IMs an hour from leeches wanting spells) so he could go hunt troll kings because he "wants to get 150 exp instead of 100". I think he was around 40 at the time and hunting roa'ters.

I did pretty much what Kaliopia did...told him no and told him my reasoning (other than the IMing me for spells part). After about an hour of him whining, he got all pissed off at me and then he decided I was an arrogant asshole that never bothers to help anyone and don't remember what it's like to be "younger" -- all cause I wouldn't tank him up so he could go hunt troll kings 20 levels over his head.

reg

I don't see any problem with not spelling people up.

If you need spells (other then something you can provide) to hunt, you need to reroll or rethink your hunting tactic.

I've been every profession in Gemstone and people who begged me for spells got ignored. I would cast an edge for the young players and I would offer massies. The only rule I had with massies is you need to try and send mana, even if you have no skill, I want to see that failure message, I want to see you trying to help... because I'm there trying to help you. reg

If people want spells and you don't feel like casting them, tell them to shove it up their arse. A 73 Sorceress shouldn't take crap from a bunch of brutes. Implode them.
