After stepping back from it for a while now, (keep in mind I don't know anything that's gone on in the last 9 months so I could be way out of date, I don't know if breakage is in yet and when I left they just announced "growing pains" but I don't really know what that is) I think something drastic would make the game very intresting. For instance, everyone logs on one day to find out that everyone is now level 1 again. You kept all your stuff but your level 1. Then after a month or so your charecters slowly return to their previous level. When I left Gemstone I had the normal complaints, too much numbers not enough role playing (the thing that got me the most was the broken economy, I got tired of having to work my butt off to keep up with inflation). I know the dropping everyone to level 1 isn't really feasible but I think it would be enjoyable. I'm sure this kind of thing gets tossed around alot but humor me if you would and tell me if you think Gem has improved or could be improved greatly by something like I'm suggestingDrew
I'm not too keen on having to compete with 1000 people for hunting areas until the age gap widens. reg

Yeah, that's probably my biggest peeve right now. You literally have to camp in some hunting areas to at least get a chance to swing at something. Imagine what it would be like if the whole of Elanthia were to suddenly go back to hunting rats.
I think probably the best 'fix' for the economy is to start charging gate taxes at all towns.

Most of us would be mildly affected (500k becomes 250k) but it would suck one heck of a lot of coins from the biggest of the merchants 500M becomes 250M). While a lot of merchants have their wealth in items, not coins, it would be one way to resolve it.
How could the kobolds get away with such large amounts of loot? The bank had put some of the holdings into veil iron or other costly metals, rather than having all cash in hand, hoping the veil iron prices would increase, making them richer.
Unfortunately, the kobolds got their hands on the veil iron, which was not as difficult to haul off, considering the costs of veil iron versus silver.
It would be one way to affect the market in a more believeable fashion.
And it doesn't have to be kobolds. Could be the Dread Pirate Roberts coming to call too.

I just wish breakage would hurry up and come out. It'll help out with inflation, but even better, we'll start seeing good merchants again.
Someone suggested on the official boards for them to drop weapons (decent ones, not stupid drake falchions) into the treasure system, kind of like how these new "box founds" work.
Right now the game is at a bit of a standstill in a lot of aspects, and I'd wager the biggest reason due to the fact that a lot of things are waiting for breakage to come out.
Maybe we'll get lucky and breakage will come out during Hot Summer Nights. Things will really get rolling again once stuff starts breaking I bet. reg

I like that idea. I would like to see something invade the bank and steal money. But I also think a lot of the problem is the treasure system.
If you could actually make enough money to buy something, merchanting wouldn't be the only way to make money, like it is now.
The treasure system in GS is a huge problem and it's still not fixed. Didn't they say it would be fixed awhile ago? reg

They have been recently. I found two weapons off critters, 'a polished mithril falchion', and 'a sky-blue mithril flail' that was zested. They were both only 1x and nothing special, but a friend of mine found a 4x sword that had a really good evil description on it.
