When did YOU find out about the Council of light

Well..Sense there wasn't a CoL foulder...

I don't know if im allowed to post this..so don't read down unless you are already a member (heh)
********************************

Well..I thought it'd be interesting to start a post about how you found out about CoL. Im sure im not the only one who came by it on accident...I was a level 3 character who was sleeping. When I got back to the computer someone had got me dirty (using some kind of wine or something)..Well,I went to the bathhouse and used the shower..the mystic must have came by the room when I was asleep.

Anyone else have interesting stories?

My in game mother told me, and she did it in a completely IC way which meant a great deal to me at the time, and still does actually.
She told me not to worry about what the Grand Poophead, err Poobah told me after mastering too.

Well when I first played GS a friend told me about how he recently joined some super secret society.

I thought to myself "Wow! I just have to learn how to become a member."

Keep in mind that I was a total newbie and knew nothing about CoL like how it was evil and just wanted to know how to join as quickly as possible.

So he told me how to join and it felt so neat being part of some underground secret clan.

Alright.. I'll tell it.. ::gulps::

When I first made my rogue character, I had NO idea what I was doing. My friend introduced me to this game while it was still on AOL so he said "roll a quick gen character and try it for a few days.. if you don't like you didn't lose anything". Yes nothing except my mind.

Anyway, I played her until she was 14. Learned everything as I went along. She's a rogue so she learned to pick by watching, learned to hunt by trial and error, bought her equipment and clothing from the shops. No guides, no hints from players (I knew only one person and he told me squat). I met people along the way, including my then ingame husband. He introduced me to CoL. He helped me join and find the items I needed to excel.

As I received my signs, I was mortified. There was NO way I could use any of these. I never did and hunted in silence with him. My husband would ask me through whispers why I wasn't using my signs, and I realized I had to fess up.

At level 14 I had NO mana and 3 spirit.

Don't ask me how that happened, don't ask me what my stats were then because I don't remember. Needless to say he threw me into the inn that very minute and begged me to reroll, we exchanged AIM screen names and he walked me through the whole stat placement and training.

I'll never ever forget him. He had to leave the lands to return to school and we still have great conversations through IMs when he finds the time to logon.

I know.. WAY more info than you wanted since you just wanted a little story, but that's how it was introduced to me and that's how I found out that my character back then.. for lack of a better word.. sucked.

Unfortunately I as a player knew all about CoL long before my characters had any understanding of it. All my characters were die-hard Volners. Ruined the surprise when the "discovery" of its existence became known to my characters.

But Bestatte was level 42 and a Voln Master with over 100 spins on the globe before *she* finally joined CoL. It was a very intimate, dark, brooding moment in her life shared with a human (she was a dark elf) who urged her to acknowledge and embrace her darkness.

From a RP perspective, even though *I* knew what *she* was getting into, it was one of the most awesome, powerful, and earthshattering moments in my history of playing the game.

I'll second that, good story. reg

I think it happened a couple of weeks after I first started playing GS.

The mystic whispered to me and I got very excited. I thought that I had to run and join right away because the offer would expire if I didn't. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing and my quick-gen cleric had 4 spirt points.

Anyway, I joined and got the task of bringing some pelts and also arm greaves. I got the pelts after some trying, but had no idea where to get the greaves. I went to the pawn shop, but they didn't have any. So there I was, outside the pawnshop, asking everyone who walked by if they had any arm greaves to sell. I didn't know about the existence of the amunet and didn't think to look in the armory.

After about an hour of this, a Lord came up to me and handed me a pacakage full of arm greaves. He wouldn't take my money for it. He proceeded to teach me about COL, the signs, the benefits, the dangers and how to get the offering items. I don't remember his name, but I am still grateful for this person who took his time to teach a bewildered newbie.

The secret has been in my family for years. Once you hit a certain age, a book is passed to you. Before opening the book, you must agree to it's terms (leap of faith and to show trust to your clan)and swear never to reveal the writtings within to anyone outside the family. I swore and inherited the tome. It is all I have left of my clan and cherish it. I have no doubt their spirits will howl when I Master.

Is it that time of the month or something? To me it looks like you're going down through the list of topics and just unleashing on people.

Her post didn't come across as purposefully offensive to me, though yours certainly did. If you've got a problem with her (or anyone else's posting) take it up with the admins and not in the discussion topics.

Yeah, I made three posts in the course of that hour.. one in News, this one, and my new topic about theme parks. I'm on a roll! Someone stop me! And yes I am, thanks for the concern, so I suggest you not cross me again.

Let me clarify my post. When I read the previous post, I laughed to myself and thought of American Pie when he was handed down "The Bible" which is found in the library. It was a joke. Obviously not seen, but even if no one figured that out, I really don't see how what I said was mean. So..

To the previous poster, my comment was not a mocking of any kind, so I apologize if that's how it was taken.

Heh, somones to old, or plays gemstone to much.. anyone 15-25 and is logical can understand that joke.. reg
I'm not old and I don't have much time to play GS, she just yiped at me on another topic so I flung something back.

I apologize for being an @sshole. reg

I was sarcastic towards ONE of your posts in another topic and I apologized for it. You would think I'm the first person to be sarcastic on these boards or something. And I wasn't even calling you names! Please, if you have a problem with me, email me and we'll discuss it so that we can move on. Thanks.

My first time was a long time ago. When it was the only "society". I'd just joined and was off trying to skin greater orcs for scalps with another new member of COL named Aivylark. We ended up asking about the skins on the amulet, and soon found ourselves confronted by an older warrior named Brinn. After chiding us for discussing it openly, he helped us get the scalps and continued to help me as soon after I needed those pesky cave troll skins. It was an enlightening experience, and kept my character loyal to COL for his short life. I've pretty much been a COL person ever since, although I did try Voln when it first came out and stayed with it for a few incarnations.
