1013 looms around the bend.

Well it looks as though the GMs didn't forget about the Song of Unravelling! Mitra posted yesterday (or Monday?) that the song will be released sometime next week. Now I'm not sure if she meant this week we're in right now or actually next week (i.e. December 17...) Whenever it is, at least it's coming.

Said song will be like dispel, only a spell can be specifically targetted. Not only this, but bards will be able to drain charges from items and draw mana from the process. Pretty gravy is you ask me.

Subject Song of Unravelling (163)

The bard spellsong 1013 (Song of Unravelling) will be released by the end of next week.

When sung versus a player or creature, either a targetted spell or a random spell can be removed (with targetted dispels being more difficult). If the target has no active spells, mana will be drained instead.

When sung at a magical item, the song will drain charges and convert them to useful mana. Both the number of charges drained and the mana recovered can vary based on the skills of the singer.

The song will not auto-renew. If draining mana or random spells from a target, it can be manually renewed. Unravelling targetted spells is not renewable at all.

This should not be considered the sole response to the bardic mana consumption concerns at higher levels - it is a part of
the response.
