Empath Etiquette

Okay, wake up over here; you've napped long enough!

I've decided that my little empath assistant needs to do more than hold all my treasures. She's over a year old and has only been to the trainer once.

I've tried to observe what the accepted procedure is in the healing areas, but gads, it's confusing. It seems like the wounded walk in and request assistance, and then the first empath to react, gets the patient. Since all I can do is restore blood, I feel bad swooping down on someone and not really be able to help them. How can I expand my mind? Would it be rude to ask in guild if I could handle the blood loss of people? I can't hunt yet, I haven't really trained in those skills, not to mention... I can barely waddle to my locker.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have someone drag you to your locker, unload, get mass spells and get a rat script hunter goin and nick um to death reg
Bah, I hate rats, I'm allergic to scripts, and my locker is stuffed.

It sounds like a young empath is similar to a young rogue... not really capable of working in their profession until they hit five trainings. I'm not sure why I thought they were different.

Nope, but it works much better in a city other than the Landing. I know I accomodate little empaths all the time in the Rest and Solhaven. reg

Do what I did when my rogue was young, tag team with an elder of the profession. He would handle all the big boxes and give me nymph boxes, etc. So if someone comes in asking for healing and your, lets call them sponsor, ends up taking the persons wounds, you should be able to get some of the blood.

I have a young empath as well and find that asking for help and to help in Town central a great way to get experience (both for leveling and etiquette). As in real life, however, you will find some empaths more understanding and helpful then others. Don't get discouraged...being an empath is a blast.

Take care. reg

Summer,

You might want to waltz into the healing center in a town and ask in the guild language if any of the working empaths would mind if you could handle the blood loss in their victims, and if they could signal you (by nodding or whatever signal you guys want to use to you)that the patient was ready for blood injections. Most empaths would be accommendating to that approach.

I personally prefer to live out in the countryside, and only coming into town to conduct trade and business, and pick up some of my favorite chewing herbs. You might want to get some decent hardware and try hunting roltons and kobolds if you are sqeamish toward rats. Might help if you think of them as giant hamsters. Of course, we all know what happened to the Dean in "The Nutty Professor II" so a word of caution is in order. I know that I spent some time running from Giant Rats when I was a young doctor in training.

Of course, for the starving, squemish, and overloaded rat-pack doctor, you could just run amubulance chasing messages all over town.

You could also ask an older empath if they would take you on as an intern. I did my internship at the old boulder at Manticores and Thraks area many years ago. Of course, at 5 trainings, I had to run past the schoolyard bullies (Mants and Thraks) before getting to my work site.

Best of luck to your empath in your chosen profession, Summer. If I am around in town, look me up. I am always willing to take on interns.

Thanks, All... there's some really helpful advice here. I have so much respect for empaths and clerics. During invasions, I spend a lot of time waiting to be healed and given a breath of life, and I'm just in awe of how the empaths and clerics are able to keep their wits about them. I'm not sure if I will ever reach that level of efficiency.

I know there are various healing areas in all of the towns, and at the Graveyard, but are there still healing areas out in the field.... like that place in Mants that Gand mentioned?

You may be sorry you offered to help, Gand. I'm worried that my mind is too "roguish" and I'm going to make a mess of this healing business!

Summer reg

I'll join with Gandmor in offering you someone with whom to heal, and I'll be glad to have you. If you see me in TSC, just hunker down and let me know you want to participate.

I miss you, too, Rhainy! Even though I'm not in game all that much anymore, when I am... I sure do miss your face...even if it was a bit rummy most of the time! <grins>

Hugs back a'cha!
