New Empath

It's been awhile and I need any suggestions on how to roll up an empath with the new system. I've always been a horrible stat placer.

I'd rather be able to hunt than to ever rely on healing.

Dear Venus,

Welcome to a fellow field empath. I have rerolled my empath character several times with the aim of making an empath that is capable of hunting critters at levels as close as possible to the age of the character. Currently, my character is 25 trainings, and can hunt Reivers (24) comfortably by himself.

One thought you might want to give to is what race your empath is going to be. Certain races have higher attributes for hunting, and others have higher attributes for handling spells. I went with a giantman for the strength and power. However, a giantman has certain disadvantages and lower attributes, so you might want to see where you want to place your stats. I think that they are lower in dexterity and charisma.

Since as an empath, you will get certain attributes which will grow, it is not necessary to place your highest stats in these such as discipline or wisdom. These will grow in time, and you will find that they will hit 100. I put my highest stats in the combat attributes, such as reflexes and strength so that I can hit harder and avoid getting hit. I put wisdom and aura next. These two attributes get bonuses, so you don't need to put them at the top unless you want to heal all the time and not hunt. I put the lowest stat in Charisma.

You might want to consider how to equip your character. Better equipment and hardware will give your better offensive as well as defensive abilities. Get the best that you can afford for the age of your character. Currently, all I have is a 4X OHE and smokey leathers (5X). I could do a lot better if I had better hardware, but I am happy as to what critters I can handle.

Another point to consider is how to train your character. I would try to do as much physical training as you can so that you can stay alive longer. For the first few years, I would recommend training as a warrior. This way you can hunt and advance, for as a young empath, it is harder to advance as you are competing against the older empaths for the wounds of the injured. As far as spells are concerned, I would train 2 spells per level. I would train only one empath spell per level until you get to level 10, then just train in the major and minor spells. I would alternate between the major and minor circles. You would want to get #202 and #103 as soon as possible since they add +10 DS for each spell. This will help you stay alive longer in the field.

Another thing you might want to consider is joining certain societies. You might want to look into COL. I am not familar with the other. With COL, you can get the following:

"Sign of Warding" which adds +5 to your DS
"Sign of Striking" which adds +5 to your AS
"Sign of Defending" which adds +10 to your DS
"Sign of Smiting" which adds +10 to your AS
"Sign of Shields" which adds +20 to your DS
"Sign of Swords" which adds +20 to your AS

You can use them all together, which could add +35 to you DS and +35 to your AS. COL signs can be used in addition to other spells in effect at the time. As you can see, it can help a lot. Col signs uses spirit points (1 for Sign of Shields and 1 for Sign of Swords), and mana points (1 for Sign of Warding, 1 for Sign of Striking, 2 for Sign of Defending, and 1 for Sign of Smiting). I don't think there is an age criteria to joining COL, and all you have to do is answer the riddles and collect the offerings to advance. So, you can see how you can really boost your AS and DS in your early years.

I don't use scrolls yet, so I have very little training in this area.

I would recommend double training in mana sharing and train in skinning so that you can pick up a few coins from your hunts to get better gear and herbs.

Hope that this gives you a start.

Good luck, and let me know if you need more help.

Hi folks,

I was introduced to an incredible Excel Spreadsheet written by Elfarran that some of you may not know about. It's at the Lost Ranger's website and the url is http://dewin.oldbattery.com/gs3/e-trainer.html

It's a little intimidating at first, because of the sheer size of it, but honestly, now I don't know how I lived without it. This file will let you see yourself in the future, and set a concrete training plan. I NEVER would have guessed that Multi-Ops was an option! I've played around with this file enough to feel competent to answer questions if someone has some, so go check it out. On the first page put in your stats at the top, and your skills at the very bottom along with your level. If you have extra training points left over you can put them under stats. Once you have those in, really look at the training plan. You can plan the next 50 trains, which is a HUGE help, for older or younger empaths alike!

If anyone knows Elfarran, tell him how wonderful this file is for me. I've emailed him but didn't get a response.

That's been around for awhile, and while it's very very close, is not accurate.

There's another one that someone else made, A started her name, but I don't remember, which was more accurate. reg

Arianiss has a cool excel spreadsheet -- the best one I've seen. That's the only one I use. :)
