Bad Eyes!

11:17 AMGrrr... this is getting so frustrating! I have been tripling in perception, and close to doubling in pick-pockets every training, and I STILL can't see a darn thing when it comes to thieves! I thought if I trained in pick-pockets, I could see any funny business going on, apparently NOT. I know there has been discussions about "tweaking" the thief system, but something seems really out of whack!

I've heard different theories that there is more to "catching" a thief than perception and training, but not sure about this. Is there anything I could do to improve my poor "eye-sight"?

01:48 PMI think Porcell posted that a rogue with greater than 100 ranks in pickpocketing will never, ever be seen.

I'd just close my containers and not dump points those skills, since they don't help.

01:58 PMI rarely get coins/gems stolen from me... I'm referring to seeing other rogues stealing. It's just puzzling that when the Tower is slow, and rogues are practicing their "skills", I never see anyone. And I have close to 100 ranks in the darn thing!

02:03 PMNo, don't stop training in those if you want to see them because eventually they plan to tweak pickpocketing. And its not a bad idea to train in perception anyway to help see the hiders and stalkers, the hidden parts of rooms, and hear those catlike rangers in the shadows.

Also consider that 100 ranks in pickpocket means you would have to be double training in it since birth up to 49th level (assuming you doubled in your 0 level as well). This is a really small percentage of thieves in the lands that you wouldn't catch. Everyone else either singles each year or doubles when they can, which are people you should eventually see.

AND... rogues get a bonus to pickpocketing, so if you have the same exact ranks in it as the rogue, chances are you won't catch him.

As frustrating as it is, don't consider it all wasted training points since fixing it is in the works.

There's always the chance of being seen, no matter how well trained you are.
