I love these boards for that exact reason. They are GREAT for using as a reference since topics are so easy to find.
Researching information in the official boards is a chore and after a while non existant that you have to ask all over again. Here you ask once, it's answered, never have to ask again. reg

I have all kinds of odd lockpicks. I take mine to the pawnshop and have them appraised there. You take the amount they are appraised at and multiply it by three, that will tell you the real value of the lockpick. Take the real value and compare it to what the "normal lockpicks" sell for. For example, I have several that are appraised at $39,768, which means they are vaalin quality.
If the lockpicks were made before the major lockpick change, the description of the lockpick doesn't mean a thing. For example, I have an old mithril lockpick that appraises at $11453, which means that it's really rolaren quality (36K value).
If you appraise the lockpick and the pawnshop man says he's not interested, then the lockpick has been broken and repaired, or it needs to be converted. Lockpicks that haven't been used after the big change have to be converted. To do that, you either have to use the lockpick and pick a box, or you can pick something around you. For example, in the pawnshop if I get the "not interested" message, I "pick cabinet with my lockpick" (the cabinet in the pawnshop). You will get a message that "you can't do that", but your lockpick will now be converted to the new system and can be appraised.
I'm probably the ONLY one that didn't know this, but I just discovered that if you look at your lockpick and see "nothing unusual", then the lockpick has never been broken. If you look at the lockpick and see "it's in good condition", then the lockpick has been snapped and repaired.
